God’s Revelation of Himself
Eventually, one has to leave the small, shallow streams and jump into the deep end of theology. Geerhardus Vos’ Biblical Theology is one of those dense, heavy theological treatise that rewards the reader for his diligence.
Starting from the foundation that the Bible is God’s revelation of himself to us, and not a collection of stories and traditions of men to explain natural phenomenon. Writing against that postulation, Vos develops the revelation of God starting in the Old Testament, though each revelation of himself and the developing story to the climax of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Camden Busey’s Reformed Forum podcast is an excellent resource for those who would like to work through this great work with a little help from their friends. The discussions that take place surrounding each section are helpful in many ways to the reader.
The discussions surround Vos’ purpose and the cross-current theology of his day. The discussions between Busey and Dr. Lane G. Tipton highlight the mountain peaks of each section, and also fill any gap. The discussion always supplements the section with additional insight and application for the reader.
